Why Are Melon Seeds In The Sweetest Part ?
« on: 24/08/2008 17:24:55 »
Greetings Maidens, Knights  & Scientific Bods Of Esteemed Academia,

Will ewe take a look at these two juicy melons !

 [ Invalid Attachment ]

As a Sheepy, there is nothing more I love,of course, than to enjoy the sweet texture and taste of beautiful ripe juicy melons ! See them there in all their bountiful ripeness ?...I literally ooze joy as I handle and hold them, hmm..the dreamy texture awaits within...ewe luff them, I luff them....melon producers luff em !!

But woe is me when I open them up !..

Why why oh why is the sweetest part of the melon the place where the seeds reside (but not watermelons eh ?...separate explanation please)

Your kind consideration in this matter will be most appreciated.

I think i'd like to be left alone with my melons right now !

Thank Ewe

Neil

Why Are Melon Seeds In The Sweetest Part ?
LOL LOL.. Well I have never thought about that!

Perhaps the center is like the inside of the uterus protecting its babies (or seeds) and after deterioration or opening and removal The seeds are then ready to reproduce Ideally perhaps in the soil where the plant had fruited!

The melon would probably take months to decompose. Then by the time it had decomposed in the center, the seeds would then have a good foothold of enriched soil to then start regrowing in the ground for the next season..  What do you think? Is that possible...

Endozoochory is generally a coevolved mutualistic relationship in which a plant surrounds seeds with an edible, nutritious fruit as a reward to animals that consume it. Seeds within the fruit are often protected by tough outer coating; many seeds have such thick protection that they cannot germinate until they are scarified by digestion. This keeps the seed from sprouting while still in the fruit and reduces competition with the parent plant.

As a firm believer in empirical study I will leave a melon to decompose for many months !
