Object no 8 in a series of  3007 pathetically easy to answer ' what is it ?' items.....hmm..this one might be a bit tricky though.

I could not see as anyone answered this one so I would like to cast a guess. Is it the heat strip on a seal a meal machine?

Looks like a multiway electrical connector of sorts. Possibly off an Apple product?

SCART socket - you can find it on the back of almost any TV set. Used to get video and audio into and out of the set.

Blimey! I've never seen one. I don't think they ever showed up in the US.

Geezer....it's also known as a euro connector which might explain why you've never heard of them...though wikipedia says it's known in the US as an EIA Multiport !

Ohhhh! You mean it's a Syndicat des Constructeurs d'Appareils Radiorécepteurs et Téléviseurs. You should have said that in the first place.

So how come our Bush radiogram didn't have one?

They only were popularised in the 1990's, and were often a differentiator for upmarket units ( though they moved into mainstream very fast) that were actually made in Europe. B&O have had them since the 1980's AFAIK, and there are even pins in the connector that were used by the Beolink system for data transfer. In a unit made for the US market the connector probably was omitted, though you probably did have a place on the board for ther socket, and a blanking panel on the back that covered the hole. If you look on the back of most non HD flat panels, and on all recent CRT units the socket will be there. Allows better quality video and audio interconnects, at least as good as the PAL system allows. You will find it on all european digital satellite units, even if most of the time they are not used.

Doesn't your Bush radiogram still use a cup and piece of string ?
