If you really want a view of what Earth considered a balanced population. Look no further than to the dawn of our industrial revolution. The rest, people like that, becomes what I call 'living in a scifi'. Trusting in our industrial farming practices, the conveyor belt principle, 'new tech', gene editing, etc etc.

When it comes to time lines then the less kids the better, but it is your own choice. And lifting up our modern 'relatively defined rich' societies as some f*ng example of our species changing their ways, instincts etc, is just dumb. There's a lot more pressures on people in those of kind of societies, and less time for kids.
