But don't discount the thermal energy in the air. The air is really quite warm, even when it's bloody freezing from our perspective.Heat pumps can make use of this energy to heat water and our homes.

it would be pretty easy to fake it using 3D software, especially as the lighting of the ground seems to show little correlation with the illumination from the tubes themselves, both with regard to coverage and to the lighting colour.
