Does the sun have an axis and does it revolve around it?
« on: 29/11/2009 13:53:36 »
The sun always appears to be the same.  Do we just see one side of it or does it revolve as the earth does?  What, may I conjecture, is on the back side?  Thanks, Joe L. Ogan

yes man it does have.
Whole galaxies are moving why not suns ??
and they have their own axis.
but it's different on surface of the sun.
surface of the sun is really weird.
cos on it's surface different layers move with different speeds.

Rotation characteristics

I am really impressed you are asking lots of questions related to space.

That chart (taken from wikipedia)shows the motion of the centre of gravity(barycentre) of our solar system with respect to the centre and limb of the sun which is shown as being stationary.  In effect the opposite is true.  The barycentre is still or moving in its orbit around the centre of the galaxy and it is the sun that is moving.  Very interesting but absolutely nothing to do with the sun's motion and location within the galaxy.  The main effects are due to the orbits of the planets Jupiter and Saturn.

Why do you worry about that ??
Ok
and  " nothing to do with the sun's motion and location within the galaxy ??"
but whole Galaxy is moving cos of Bang !
who knows motion of sun might depend on motion of galaxies ??

how can you forget about space and time distortion in large scale and Dark Energy ??
causing all stuff in galaxies to move together along with galaxies as whole !!

You do not appear to understand the stuff that you are posting and often add comments that are likely to confuse others.  That one was bad enough to warrant correction.  The reply above is total rubbish. Be careful to think before posting or I will have to report you to the moderators for troll like activity

In defense, even with conversations with him i have had, he means no harm. He comes from the Eastern world and so as much language is to communicate, English is not his first.

I am sure he had the right intentions.

where I want wrong ?
I think we have misunderstanding like Newton and Hook LOL.

OK, Your statement Vs. My statement.

70% of dark energy present in this Universe.
25% if dark matter present in this Universe.

which was concluded by Cosmologists. After the big bang, scientist expected Galaxies to move in a predicted way.
but, something was wrong ?? what was it ??

Galaxies began to move in random way.it was also because of the large mass of Galaxies as whole.
distortion of space and time is very big.

still they could not understand what making them to move in this spider web of space and time ??

And they named it as unknown stuff called dark matter. We are still trying to understand it.

what I said was that about Galaxies are rotating ...

have a look at this

http://www.universetoday.com/guide-to-space/galaxies/galaxy-rotation/

Look across the Universe, and you'll see that almost everything is rotating. The Earth rotates on its axis as it orbits the Sun. And the Sun itself is rotating. As you can probably guess, we even have galaxy rotation with our Milky Way galaxy.

Our galaxy is rotating incredibly slowly, however. It takes the Sun 220 million years to complete a single orbit around the galaxy. In the 4.6 billion years that the Sun and planets have been here, they've only rotated around the center of the galaxy about 20 times.

We know that galaxy rotation is happening because the Milky Way is a flattened disk, in the same way that the Solar System is a flattened disk. The centripidal force from the rotation flattens out the galactic disk. All stars in the galactic disk follow roughly circular orbits around the center of the galaxy. Stars in the halo can have much different orbits and speeds.

The calculation of the high rotational speed of the galaxy led to the discovery of dark matter. If our galaxy contained just the matter we can see – planets, gas, etc – the galaxy rotation should cause it to spin apart. Instead, there's much more mass holding the galaxy together. In fact, astronomers have calculated that the total mass of the galaxy is probably 10 times greater than the sum of all the stars in it. 90% of this is invisible dark matter, holding the galaxy rotation together. And only 10% is the regular matter that we can see. Our galaxy really has a mass of more than 1 trillion suns, and extends out more than 600,000 light-years; a third of the distance to the nearby Andromeda galaxy.

All the galaxies we can see are rotating. It's this rotational force that counteracts the inward pull of gravity from all the galaxies. If galaxies didn't rotate, they'd collapse inward and just join the supermassive black holes at the hearts of galaxies.

We have written many articles about galaxies for Universe Today. Here's another article about the rotation of the Milky Way.

Want more resources on galaxies? Here's a link to the Messier catalog's section on Galaxies. And here's NASA's World Book on galaxies.

We have also recorded an episode of Astronomy Cast about galaxies – Episode 97: Galaxies.

Now you might have understood Mr.Silver Surfer ??
it's effecting whole galaxies. along with galaxies suns and planets all the stuff in it move.

and I am taking about this OK.
I suspect it might effect rotations of the sun !

ScientificBoyZClub  Your posts are mostly copied from other websites and not your own writings and frquently not in the correct context.

I am quite happy with a limited grasp of english but my long experience with trolls on many sites is that they frequently feign a foriegn accent.

To be specific about my criticism of your 01/12/2009 09:36:53 post   the rotation period of the sun and the motion of the sun about the barycentre of the solar system has nothing to do with dark matter and very little to do with the structure of the galaxy because dark matter is quite evenly distributed and other stars are a very long way away.  You appear here and elsewhere in your writings not to undderstand that the solar system and our galaxy are very different objects on very different scales.
