What is the global spend on energy per hour?
« on: 15/01/2011 01:31:23 »
My Math calculations must be wrong or something.

The average worldwide consumption of energy is 15 terawatts (1.504*10^13 W)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_energy_resources_and_consumption [nofollow]

The total money worldwide (in dollars) is between $40 & 44 trillion...

Given that a KW/hour is roughly 10 cents, we spend 1.5 * 10^10 KW * 0.1= 1.5* 10^9 dollars!!! an hour.

     1.500.000.000$ an hour

44.000.000.000.000$

wow, the numbers are impressive!!!

not to forget that:
"the richest 10% of adults accounted for 85% of the world total"
and
"the richest 2% own more than half of global household assets."

I agree with Marshall Brain we need to rethink capitalism.

If there are 7 Billion people on the planet.
44 Trillion Dollars.

Then that would be about $6300 each.  House, cars, savings...  total (I think).
But, like you said, disproportionally distributed.

Keep in mind there is a monetary flow that the global economy depends on. Shut down the monetary flow, and the global economy crashes.

Here is another way to look at it...

Out of that 7 Billion People.
2 people own, or at least control about 25% of the world's oil supplies.

King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia.
Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi, UAE
