The google computer complex must be one of the worlds largest and we are very lucky to have access to it at no cost.
I wanted spares for a 2002 American branded chainsaw and did not know where to look so I asked Google to provide an users manual which it did in Milli seconds, in this was a list of spare part numbers simply entering one of these into google brought up a list of suppliers.
Negotiating with these was a more lengthy process as stores in the USA regard out of USA as another planet but I eventually found one that had heard of the UK.

Oh, I thought the UK was on a different planet.  That is why we were forced to build "New England, New York, New Jersey, & New Hampshire".  And, if you say you're wanting to pay in Pounds Sterling, I'd expect to get a pound of silver in the mail. []

There certainly are other search engines...  and have been before Google.  But, I do find Google (and Froogle) easy to use, and it seems to do a slightly better job than other search engines.

Unfortunately, on the web so much stuff is unsorted.  I always hate to be searching for something like a wiring diagram, and get links to sites who apparently are trying to sell copies of other people's copyrighted works, if they actually even have it.

Google obviously makes money on "clicks", so one always wonders how much that influences the website organization.

With respect, and not wishing to start a transatlantic feud, we built those places!  Even the dutch have a better claim to have built them.  We only let you take them over when, like all rowdy teenagers, you grew out of your old room and needed a bit of space to play your music (although I wouldn't call it music...in my day you could hear all the words and there wasn't that endless drum...).

Well,it was a hit before I was born - and it's still going strong, so it has outlasted me so far!

This is one of the reasons I've refused to get Android or I-Phones.
But, it may also be appropriate to also consider using a different E-Mail provider, and search engine.

Firefox also has a security feature built in.  It sends all of your browser pages to Google to check for "threats" whether or not it is being directed through a search engine.

I believe it is controlled by the options:

"Block reported attack sites"
"Block reported web forgeries"

I did not know what danger I was putting myself in when I looked for chainsaw spares, in future I will let the trees remain un pruned.

You can never be too careful with Big Brother watching your every move.

From now on, The Naked Scientists will likely be marked by environmentalists as being chainsaw and logger friendly.

A few years ago, an Engineer at my office sent an underling on a search for some pumping and tank heating equipment.  He gave her the IP address of the site he wanted her to look up.

Which was, of course, blocked by our company's version of net-nanny, so I was called to find a backdoor to get into the website.   []

It turns out that here is a big difference between the websites:

www dot hotbox dot com
and
www dot hot-box dot com

A little hyphen makes a huge difference when inputting URLs, with the latter website giving the desired pump equipment and enclosures, and the other giving less desirable pumping results.

Thankfully nobody actually monitors that kind of stuff...  at least for "random events".
