Tangible Anointing of the Holy Spirit
« on: 14/06/2006 11:48:31 »
I once felt the tangible anointing of the Holy Spirit when a lady layed hands on me. A numbness. Other would feel heat and others cold. Some fall to the floor and shake, others laugh as did I also. One can feel a refreshing in the spirit too.

There are numerous such phenomena.

One young woman would speak in an unknown tongue, but was exceptional because she was treated for it by a Dr with heavy medication.

Hi Bren - I have also felt the anointing of the Holy Spirit.  I have fallen to the floor a few times, I have only spoken in tongues a few times.  It's happened to me several times when singing praise and worship songs, and special solo's.  Our church also hosted a revival where several children (including one of mine) were anointed with the Holy Spirit and they all spoke in different tongues.  It was incredible. When this happens, you feel an overwhelming peace.  I hope you feel it again.

Here in Sydney the outpouring of the Spirit slowed down a lot. But in Toronto Canada and St Louis and other places the outpouring is still popular.

I am on www.annointed.net

Charismatic churches are into God's Spirit. Vineyard, Pentecostal Assemblies of God, even the Catholic Charismatic Renewal.

Awww, that is too bad Bren.  Do you know about soaking?  Vineyard...I know there is music by them, are they the same?  Or Vineyard Church?

I have felt the annointing too...and have experienced what Carolyn has many times...pretty cool actually...and Tony, don't knock it until you have seeked it for yourself...you never know what you might be missing out on.

Hi Bren - Sorry it has slowed down where you are, but you can prevent it from slowing down in your own life.  Just remember you don't have to have a revival going on, or even be at church to be annointed by the Holy Spirit.  All you have to do is invite him in.

Hey Tony - I agree with Loretta.  Don't knock it just because you're not familiar with it or don't understand it.  I'm still praying that you find the answers you're looking for.

That the effect is there is undoubted, but what causes the effect is something else.

Some cynics might explain such reactions as a mild and rather peculiar form of epilepsy.

sure, you have cynics who will explain it that way...but you know what?  I would prefer to have that form of epilepsy without the use of any medicine to prevent me from having those type of "symptoms".  There are cynics for everything and may as well be for this too!  LOL  Always has been and always will be!

Not every 'illness' needs to be treated, and some 'abnormalities' may even be beneficial in a roundabout way.

you would need to base your findings on fact or rather experience..we all have experiences and the fact is it could be a bit different for people....we know as we have experienced it...

You refer it as an illness...so any type of emotion could be an illness, right? I am overjoyed to the point I could pass out, would that be classified as an illness? If I suffer from euphoria is there a cure or something to mask the symptoms?  Just curious...tell me one person you would base normality on?  Your reason why?  I have had this discussion with clinicans and have had some fun...everyone is dysfunctional!

lol!

even if you considered twins, and named them normal, than only one twin would be normal.  Because of the difference in fingerprint pattern the other twin would be abnormal.  It is impossible to have any precise classification because nobody but one would be normal.

im very happy to be at this forum.  Is there anything you can do to help me doctor? [:)]

At these evangelical type mass coventions that happen...can I ask if:

........... do these miracles where people are healed actually happen ?...do people really really get up and walk after many years in a wheel chair ?..do blind peope see ?...do deaf people hear ?.....are the sick healed ?

I've seen these conventions on television and to me , in my laymans understanding and non religious way........ to me...it looks like hysteria....but that's why I remain open minded about everything...

...can you tell me if these miracles happen ?...is it hysteria ?

There are books and debates on this, some are online.

I went to a Benny Hinn Crusade today but a few years back saw a girl healed from deafness in one, and Benny tested there and then. It was convincing and she said she would throw away her hearing aids.

Maybe a year later I sat behind her at church, and saw the hearing aids attached behind her ears. The thing with healing, is that people sin with their healing, and lose the manifestation. Jesus said after a healing, "sin no more, or something worse may happen to you."

The best thing is to see people who are loving because of the Spirit, or anointing. The expression and care is wonderful. These ones can keep healing, and tell you your secret thoughts, and pour out the tangible anointing...

But for science I refer to a Christian psychiatrist.
http://www.adrian.warnock.info/2005/05/toronto-blessing-11-years-ago-this.htm

A sceptic too, http://www.apologeticsindex.org/m20.html

Some manifestations are unclean spirits work. The sceptics ignore this. It's all the same to them.

I meant Vineyard as from J Wimber.

I put the term 'illness' in quotes to show that this was a possible term that could be applied, but only subjectively so.

The fact that something is enjoyable does not prohibit it from being regarded as an illness.  To be regarded as an illness, it needs to be regarded as dysfunctional, but that assumes some particular view of what is functional and what is dysfunctional.

Personally, I would (and did) only apply the word 'illness' in such a case as a little wind up [}:)][:P]

I think the most common non-religious explanation (apart from fraud – but then, I'm the trusting type) is a placebo effect.
