Hey Neil, I enjoyed a summer rain the other night myself and it was truly refreshing! Its amazing how refreshed one feels after a rain like that. Everthing feels fresh and it seems to really heighten your sense of smell and it is rather exhilerating to go out in it and just enjoy it as it falls upon your face!umm very nice! About how many inches of water do you think fell on that september day in your drive? It looks pretty high!....Karen

Police and firemen attended to more than 1,000 emergencies, and several open air events, including a concert to celebrate South Africa's hosting of the football World Cup 2010, were cancelled as rain and thunder lashed the city late Friday.

Meteorologists said Berlin had more than half its average monthly rainfall for July in just a few minutes.

Traffic was severely disrupted by the downpour and pedestrians found themselves up to their ankles in rain, while hundreds of cellars, underground garages and cars were flooded.

About 800 police and firemen were sent out to remove about 50 uprooted trees.

The Italian football team, which is playing France in the World Cup final in Berlin on Sunday, delayed their move to the capital from their tournament base in Duisberg because the pitch in the capital was deemed too wet for a practice session.

The weather services forecast lighter storms over Berlin for the rest of the weekend.

Looks like the eye and partial face of an egyption mummy or something with that old dried skin, Peeking through a window frame, then I thought it was a scene from Godzilla or Jurrasic park or something!  Now I look again and it looks like and old car headlight that is broken out with a strange gaurd over it! Who knows, my brain could see just about anything you know!......even with my eyes closed......Karen

Hey Neil, I here it is pretty hot over there now! Summer rain gone! So about your rain. Did you have a river close to your place or did the water just rise fast because the amount of rainfall,within a short period? Referring to your September picture that is!.....Karen

Hi Karen,

Yep, it was just so heavy the rain..... that the drains could not handle it.

But it's a very moot point that where I live there is a lake just 100 meters away and we are atop a high water table here.....lifting up the floor boards reveals 5-8 inches of water 2-3 feet down...beneath the house. looking at an old map 1894...I have found that our house and the surrounding few are slap bang in the middle of another lake !!....obviously not here now but it must have an effect on the surrounding high water table don't you think ?

I would be willing to bet it does! How old is your house Neil, It looks rather like newer construction? Mine was built in around 1959 I think. It was built by old mill workers! It was done with two rooms first, like a cabin then added onto over the years as their family grew!

I wonder how much water still remains beneath you, and will that cause problems with sinking and unleveling of said structure or foundation?.....Karen
