Dearest Klevur Peeps,
We all luff ya.
As a sheepy i of course spend all my waking hours at night looking at the stars, the fact that I am
mostly lying on my back has baaaabsolutely nuffink to do with it !!
During the day I do laps of my latest backyard telescope which next Tuesday I'm converting to a wok. So, I'm walking da wok ! lol.....ha ha ha....le sigh !!
As ewe can see in this genuine bona-fide non-doctored piccy taken just a few moments ago that I will be cooking lots of stir fry next Tuesday.
Genuine non doctored bona fide image a few moments ago!!
Anyway, there i was enjoying a view of the moon last night and I wondered,
"if da moon had a moon...would it also be called a Moon ? "
whajafink ?
what are moons of moons called ?
Hope ewe can help. A tickle of my sheepy tummy and some brown matted brown "exit" wool to the winner.
hugs et les shmishes
Neil

I'm trying to establish nomenclature
Of a Moon with with a Moon in nature
Is it called a moon or a satellite ?
Or a moon with an orbiting dollop of shite ?

Well, the Earth is a "moon" of the Sun, so it seems a moon's moon's a "moon".

I guess it depends on where you are counting from. Planets are considered primary satellites of the Sun, which would make moon's of those planets, secondary satellites of the Sun, or "sub-satellites". Satellites of the Moons would be tertiary satellites of the Sun (sub-sub-satellites), or sub-satellites of the planet. I guess sub-moon would be as good a term as any for a natural satellite of a moon.

In honour of the sheepish nature of the OP, I would suggest a "Moo-Moon".
OK; wrong creature, but all in the same farm yard.

Moonlet would work. Then poets could speak of a moonlit moonlet.

New to the forum and afraid that a QI style claxton will sound if I give the answer Neil is angling after, and the prize is not enough. So I will just say this.
