Burning witches was a mistake
« on: 27/06/2005 05:52:36 »
I heard a report on the news the other day that an extract from a common weed may be efficacious in the treatment of a certain type of leukemia. As the largest part of a medieval witch's trade was herb lore, what else would we now know about were these people not persecuted to near-extinction?

Hello,

I have just heard on the news that maleria is killing so very many and "they" are just looking at Artemisia Absinthium (Wormwood)which was used for hundreds of years as a cure.  But, we are told that it will be very expensive to extract the tincture and then make a cure.

One wonders why "they" don't just brew a tea and make a cream from it.

Herbs are the real and natural remedies.

Man made medicinal compounds always have more side effects than symptoms, and if you want to have a real hoot, read the directions on a packet of prozac.

The witches trade was indeed herbalism.

Yes, artemisia (chinese / sweet wormwood) is showing great promise as an antimalarial with good tolerance and few side effects. You are correct, its history lies in Chinese medicine dating back 2000 years.

An article providing more information about natural products and natural remedies

Hi,

I grow my own herbs which we make tea for medicinal purposes although I would like to make tinctures and I have recently started to make crystal essences.

I studied crystal therapy under Michael Gienger.

Smokey Quartz is the first one that I made and it is so efficacious
and fast acting it is the best treatment for stress that I have ever come accross. I have seen some websites that call this Vibrational Medicine, have you come accross it or used this yourself?

Where can I learn about herbal medicine? I have started to bake my own bread and make a lot of my own food now. I don't know why but I feel this need to return to basics and start doing things myself. Making bread is a right royal pain in the butt but I have refused to buy any more bread even if it works out more expensive.

I saw a prescription for fluoxetine hanging up on my friend's cork board yesterday and I was shocked. He does not need anti depressants but it seems GPs give them out like smarties. I have had long chats with my mate and he has mild depression because he is stuck at home with the kids all day.

Anyway my point is I am very interested in herbal remedies now. I am NOT interested in that crap which is simply a placebo but something with scientific evidence of pharmacological activity.

Does anybody know where I can get bona fide training in herbal medicine?

I hope to use this when I return to medicine later on in life.
