Damaged nerve.
« on: 01/07/2004 17:27:05 »
can a damaged nerve be repaired?? well what i know about the body nerves is that they have schwan cells which help the damaged nerves repaired but the nerves or neurons of the brain dont have the schwan cells so they cant be repaired so my question is that is there any way to repair the damaged nerves which dont have the schwan cells.

Great question. First have a listen to the interview we did with neurobiologist Dr. Adrian Pini who has considerable expertise in this area. This page also contains links to numerous sites that cover the issues and problems of CNS nerve regeneration :

well, i  read a lot of research papers about stem cell based therapy for most of the adult organ regeneration , like the liver , pancreas , muscle and also nerve  ...,so nerve regeneration (repair) through stemm cells ia a very plaussible mechanism .
