So what book.......
« on: 20/09/2004 21:26:56 »
... have you got your nose into at the moment?

I'll start with;

The Ancestor's Tale by Richard Dawkins.

A reverse journey through evolution of humans, the great apes, monkeys, mammals, reptiles, fish, little sea creatures and squidgy blobs. It's lavishly illustrated for the benefit of us baloon-heads as the words get a bit tiring.

and I'm listening to Ray Charles and friends - Genius loves company.

thats very worthy - I bet you only mentioned it because its a science forum! [;)]

i just finished a dalziel and pascoe book 'Bones and Silence' by Reginald Hill. not bad. Ian Rankin is better though. was going to start on Red Rabbit (Tom Clancy I think) but I've put it somewhere (or lent it out?) and can't find it! might read 'The Shipping news' next.

I do have lots of sciency books too, and ones that arn't even text books! 'Nature Vs Nurture' by Matt Ridley is one near the top of the 'to read' pile.

hope you're enjoying it!

Fishy,

I think I read one called "the red queen" by Matt Ridley, was fairly good. The most recent non-science book I have read was, Plan of Attack by Bob Woodward. I used to read quite a lot but now my old brain is just too fatigued after the boring routine of work. Most of the time I just put the TV on and the program goes in one eye and out the other!

I am reading the Dictionary of Theories. It has 5,000 theories, laws, and hypotheses. I am also reading Pope Joan, and the word lovers dictionary. I usually am reading 5 or 6 books at a time but it slows during the school year.
I am amazed to see what other people are reading on here.

I read Michael Crichton's PREY over the weekend. Un-put-downable, but predictable ending (for a virologist !). Thoroughly recommended, however.

Here's the details :

I know lots of Christians who believe the theory of evolution.
We get a lot of debate on evolution v creation on this website and it has gotten quite boring at times. I would like to hear your (the buddhist) opinion on the subject for a change.

Hey Broca, Dictionary of Theories sounds good.

Chris, now I have to read Prey to find out why you thought it was un-put-downable!

Currently reading:
Claire's Head (with my book club) by Catharine Bush
Two sisters suffer with migraines.  One sister vanishes and the other searches for her.  Lots of migraine info such as stating that they are neurological rather than vascular.

Credit:  The Cutting Edge (a Christmas gift from my son) by Scott French
Compares credit cards, talks about how credit reports are compiled (scary), credit crime.

Self Matters by Dr. Phil
We learn to reframe our view of self.

Eat Right 4 Your Type by Peter J. D'Adamo with Catherine Whitney
Presents the theory that different blood types (A, B, AB, O) require different diets for optimum body performance.

I am actually writing on dealing with adultery... But it's mainly a Christian point of view. It's hard to write for athiests. Moral bearings difficulty. Also for victims of sex slavery...

Bren, just thought I'd let you know your link don't work.

I don't want to  hojack this thread and start a contentious issue here but I have to ask, why can't you write a book for athiests on the subject of adultery and sex slavery ? You mention it's a ' moral bearings difficulty '....

Do you consider athiests to be immoral ? and therefore are unable to differentiate between good and bad when it comes to adultery and sex slavery ?
