How do you clean copper cents and nickel coins? (and also to remove their toning)

I also need to know how to remove water marks from uncirculated lincoln cents. Hope someone has some ideas.

Hi Frank,

I think cola does a good job of cleaning copper coins.....just drop them in a small glass full for a short while and you'll get sparkling results  !


I might be wrong though and I don't know if this applies to diet coke too !!

Lets hope a passing copper coin cleaner spends a penny to drop in and answer you correctly.

cola works for that as well as making a baking soda paste and elbow grease.. The cola is great and faster..

Take care not to remove too much copper.  'Copper' coins are made of steel in most countries.
