Watching the little boats come in to the last Dunkirk reunion, and seeing and talking to the last few survivors, decked in medals that they had earned, while so many had fallen and yet so many more would have, if they had not risked their lives to help our soldiers to get to the larger ships.

Proud does not even come close to that day. I would say my wife and friends were immensely humbled by the selfless acts of these bravest of men, who offered all to save so many helpless people that they had never met, yet they willingly endured the horrors of this massacre, and against all odds prevailed victorious.

Seeing the Black Americans standing up to the tyranny of racial hatred, urged on to become as equal in a society of hooded thugs. Martin  Luther King’s speech ‘I Have A Dream’ can be heard at: http://www.americanrhetoric.com/speeches/Ihaveadream.htm

Nelson Mandela released from prison and then himself setting free his own country and fellow men and women.

John Lennon for spreading his World Peace message into the home and hearts of everyone. “All We Are Saying, Is Give Peace a Chance”

Bob Geldof for having the foresight and tenacity to deliver hope to the starving millions in Ethiopia and Somalia when he launched his bid to feed the world, and even now he is actively engaging injustice.

Andrew - surely, then, that is more humility than pride? I know what you mean, though.
I don't know that I've ever actually been "proud" of anything. I've felt very pleased with myself on occasions, but pride? I don't think so.
