So what builds mass?

well, we've already discussed it and you can find several definitions for it. 'Forces' builds it. 'rest mass' builds it,  'energy' builds it, and how about those photons having no mass by themselves but as a system gaining one.

You could also try this one  http://web.mit.edu/physics/news/physicsatmit/physicsatmit_03_wilczek_originofmass.pdf

And yes, then we have the Higgs field with its mediator,  the Higgs boson,  transferring one type of 'mass'.

And this whole discussion actually relates to the Majorana particle.

does it have a mass?

It's also a 'quasi particle'

You should by now get a inkling to why fields are becoming so attractive. No longer 'particles', but 'fields' expressing themselves as 'particles'.

And if you accept that, then you're a result of 'fields' too.

that actually add immensely to the complexity of our universe. Because you don't fall apart, you're 'coherent', 'material', you 'move' and you can 'touch' and be touched, in space and in time. You don't change from one instant to the other, other than by your mood possibly.

Well, there is a further point to it. 'Scales' and Emergence's. What I discussed some time ago, what might lead to a universe.

It actually connects to this. And 'clicking' on " Quote from: yor_on on 26/02/2021 16:57:15 " you should be able to be 'teleported' to the beginning of those questions I had.

Quote from: yor_on on 26/02/2021 16:57:15
And from that to the Planck Length. Or if you like Plank units. There is a reason why we call it the smallest length. Or maybe we should call it the smallest 'meaningful' length.

https://www.fnal.gov/pub/today/archive/archive_2013/today13-11-01_NutshellReadMore.html

what made me react was physics forum informing a guy that it had no importance. That there was no knowledge about what would consist of a smallest length.

I would say that this is a very healthy sign of democracy. And that both China and India seems to be walking a path of confrontation and alienation those days. Even if the 'news' we gain are manipulated by geopolitics and realpolitik surrounding them repressions will still be repressions. So good on you.

My pointy hat doing what I expect it to do. I warned about tree planting and I will keep on warning about it. Not that we shouldn't try, but it's going to be very tricky as global warming accelerates .And it's not only trees of course, it's about all species. There are no good solutions here, except banning, today. Changing your infra structure and sharing. Anathema to the game you play. Banning won't solve what's already happening but it will be a step towards minimizing the effects we otherwise will get in the next decades.

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/mar/10/is-this-the-end-of-forests-as-weve-known-them

" The possibility of worldwide mass forest mortality linked to climate change was flagged in the first Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change assessments in 1990. But today, many researchers are expressing particular concern about the tree mortality crisis building in California and other parts of the west.

Since 2010, 129m trees are estimated to have died in California’s national forests, as a result of a hotter climate, insects and other factors. Astonishingly, 48.9% of all trees in a comprehensive study of the southern Sierra Nevada mountain range were killed. "

That pointy hat I use build on studies, you just need to put them together.

" With the combined impacts of global heating and rampant logging, some researchers warn that large parts of the rainforest ecosystem could collapse and convert to savanna. “Today, we stand exactly in a moment of destiny,” two leading academics declared in a 2019 editorial. “The tipping point is here, it is now.” "

And you can see the repressions spreading, first they come where you already have them and the inequality is blatant. But it will be with that as it is with rings on the water.  It will grow.
