A common cause of brain haemorrhage is a ruptured cerebral aneurysm (a bulge in an artery supplying the brain). These aneurysms are caused by a weakness in the arterial wall, which causes the vessel to progressively enlarge in diameter; they also seem to be more common in individuals with hypertension.
As the aneurysm becomes larger, the tension in the wall increases, increasing the likelihood that the vessel will rupture. Individuals may well have higher blood pressure during moments of stress, making these situations more likely to be associated with a bleed.
