Been lurking this site for a while, I like it and Here I am...Mr.Furley!

I have Hypospadia; this means that the urethra on my penis doesnt stop at the the very tip but about 1/2 inch below it on the inderside.  Supposedly 1 in 20 men have this condition.   The only drawback is when I pee, sometimes it goes all over the place, so when I dont feel like aiming @ 3am after getting home from the bar, I just sit on the can:)

OK so heres the question, (regardless if you have hypospadia or not...as long as your a man)  When you guys go to void urine, do you have to "close the valve" more than once? and "push" with it a tiny bit to get the left overs out?  I often find myself shaking my weiner to get everything out especially when sitting on the can so i dont have any come out when I stand up.  So basically, is it normal for the urine flow to stop when you tell it to and have no drippage or does some always comeout even when your done, and how much?  This has been of concern to me for this has been bothersome!  Thank you all!

Yea, having to shake the remnants makes pee goes all over the place no matter who the guy or the placement of his urethra.  Just ask any live-in girlfriend or wife on the planet.  There's an old saying "No matter how much you shake, the last 3 drops always go in your pants"  Such are the perils of being a man.  Hey, at least we don't have to get pregnant.

In answer to your question, Mr. Furley, men have a relatively long urethra (compared with a woman) which means that it is not unusual for urine to dribble out even after you think you've finished. Hence the reason for the shake !

Okay, question for you men.  Why is it that men usually make the biggest mess in the bathroom, particularly around the toilet, yet many men expect women to do most (or all) of the bathroom cleaning?  Isn't it enough that we put up with periods every month and get our bladders (among other organs) squished and ripped by babies?

Sorry Donnah, being born a male comes with certain privileges. Shaking and not dabbing is one of them. The other is to stand and urinate, which answers your other question. Try standing in the dark while drunk, aiming your penis at this bowl you can't see located below your knees and not missing the target. The fact that the majority of our urine hits the target is a testament to our incredible ability, developed over many centuries. Also, if you didn't get periods and have your insides reorganised while pregnant, you might as well have a penis. As for cleaning the bathroom, most blokes just don't care.

Donnah - can you explain this toilet seat up / down business to me please ? Why do women insist that the toilet seat always has to be left down ? If they insisted that it was always left up, then they wouldn;t have to sit in piddle whenever they wanted to use the toilet..and then they wouldn;t have anything to moan about...or perhaps that's why they like it kept down...[]

You want to know why men make the most mess but women clean it up?  It's because we're content to live in our filth for greater periods of time than women are.  Every woman I've ever lived with from mom, to girlfriend, to fiance has always always always gotten grossed out by the bathroom and cleaned it long before I even thought it was dirty.  On the other hand, I am anal about the kitchen...I don't like dirt near where I prepare food.  It's a fair trade-off...the wife takes care of the bathroom and laundry, I take care of the kitchen and yard.  Everything else we share.

Ok, I get it, men's standard of cleanliness is generally lower than women's.  Actually that works to my benefit, since I own a cleaning business.  A number of clients have commented on the reduction in marital friction after they started using the service.  (Are you listening gentlemen?  Christmas is coming.)

Chris, I used to get annoyed if the toilet seat was left up and I went "splash" in the dark (not to mention the lovely cold porcelain).  But when I thought about it rationally it didn't make any more sense for a man to put the seat down when finished than it did for a woman to put the seat up when finished.  My logic now is that I keep the seat and lid down all the time so that if I drop something it doesn't land in the bowl (delightful when it's your toothbrush).  Keeps the cat out too.  But that's my preference and I don't rag on my son or boyfriend if they leave the seat up.

I should avoid cleaning your toilet with your toothbrush though, that might lead to you developing one or two unpleasant stomach episodes[xx(]

Seriously, don't put the toothbrushes near the toilet. Most people don't realise how much of an aerosol flushing the toilet creates - a mist of bacteria and virus laden air that floats around the room and lands on and colonises whatever it meets...yum [}:)]

Whew!  Glad I keep my toothbrush in the medicine cabinet...except when I'm using it.  I'll try not to flush at the same time.

The aerosol spraying is another VERY good reason to put down the toilet seat and lid before flushing.

When I worked in the ER, one of the urologists used to do a free prostate screening through our ER and he had a toilet that measurered the strength of the urine stream.  When the men dribbled all over the floor, which many of them did, he informed us that was a sign of an enlarged prostate and to send them up to his office.  Dr. Merlin's (his real name, believe it or not) Magic Toilet, as we called it, was a quick screening and a way of drumming up business.  The point being, sometimes, if the men are older, they can't help the dribbles.

Another thought:  
As cannibinoid pointed out, my standards for bathroom cleaning are much lower than my wife's.  I don't mind cleaning the kitchen, though both our standards are pretty low.  The catch is that when I try to clean the kitchen, I never do all the right things and she ends up telling me to get out of "her" kitchen.  Then I'm in trouble for not cleaning the kitchen.  I just can't win.

I used to get into the same trouble trying to clean the bathroom.  I'd do a typical guy half-assed cleaning job (how am *I* supposed to know that you have to clean BEHIND the toilet?  wtf?)  and then I'd get yelled at and she'd clean the bathroom herself anyway.  Luckily, she has since quit asking me to clean the bathroom beyond requiring me to clean up beard trimmings after I shave/trim my face.

When my son was about eight, I decided it was time he learned the art of bathroom cleaning.  Unfortunately he took his father's attitude and stated indignantly "I'm NOT cleaning the bathroom".  I replied "okay, you don't have to".  His jaw dropped and just as a smug grin was crossing his face I added "the people who own the service station at the corner are very nice and I'm sure they will let you use their bathroom".  He went into his room to play and came out about three hours later, wiggling in discomfort with crossed legs.  "I'm ready to learn to clean the bathroom Mum".

Way to go, Donnah.  Maybe you should have tried the same tactic for having him put the toilet seat down.  Sorry guys, and I know you don't want to hear this, but the seat should be down.  Because it's just considerate to your significant other.  Being as we sit to pee, it is very disconcerting to sit on a cold toilet in the middle of the night, and fall partially into it.  Now, when a guy lives alone, I can understand the seat up, but if you're living with a female, it has to do with your ability to be considerate and think of someone else other than yourself.  And when you use the toilet in your girlfriend's house, you should be mannerly enough to put it back the way you found it -- and clean up your dribbles!

To help you to identify an 'up' toilet seat in the dark invest in some phosphorescent / luminescent stickers for the underside of the seat. At night they will glow - if you can see them then you know you have to put the seat down. During the day they are invivisible.
