Happy new year 2011 to everyone!!!

However it has been one of my main symptoms. The day or some days after "O" I would get immense thirst and could drink 7 liters a day.
I had this during malaria fever, drinking was only increasing the thirst to the point I was having severe indigestion with water.  Few months after that my POIS was very aggravated but I don't know if it's linked since several other bad things happened at the same time.

Quote from: Zoop on 26/12/2010 14:32:36
Has someone tried the old remedies described p.429 (quinquina, myrrh...) set aside unsuccessful cold baths ?
Else, I found in a book that gingko increased dopamine synthesis. Anyone heard of it ? Maybe it could help (we know dopamine probably fails in POIS). It's also said it raises brain circulation.
I tried myrrh for a few days and felt less brain fog (placebo?) but had abdominal pain and digestive problems because of it. This is not normal,  I took only 3 caps/day and it was written on the box 2 caps 3 times/day. I'll try again later with smaller dosage.
I'd like to take quinquina if prescribed by a doctor. Unfortunately where I live they don't know about these things.
Only had headaches with gingko..

Quote from: rock27 on 26/12/2010 21:47:28
I banned all milk products a few years ago, cos I felt bad after taking those, but butter milk is OK now for me. It seems to be good for digestion too (this is also a problem day 1).
Interesting to know, it's a good source of calcium.

I just started taking Methionine last week and will post my results in 6 weeks. @Vandemolen3 - have you tried this amino acid also?
No I didn't try amino acid. Others on this forum did. B_Jim is one of them.
Good luck with the Methionine.

Hey everyone in america, why dint we have more people volunteering for TLC and there are already 4 BBC volunteers. Tl seems more ready to do a show than BBC and nobody is jumping at the opportunity.

I am adding my name to the list, hopefully this encourages more people consider.

****************************************************************

Attention:     POIS Volunteers Needed!     Important announcement.

Hey everyone!

Thanks again for the enormous support about the TLC show on POIS.  I am really looking forward to speaking with anyone who is considering participating (or at least wants to learn more) and all those who have stepped up and said they would volunteer!

I am sure the holiday season was hectic for most of you, and I have yet to be in contact with anyone.  I would like to determine who is interested so I can start the process and learn more about you.

Please email me at lsavino@sirensmedia.com, if you would like to learn more about the show and possibly participating!

Without a participant, we are unable to move forward with the show.  But it is clear through this forum how prevalent and debilitating POIS can be.  So we are really hopeful that we can connect with someone through this forum!

Thanks everyone and hope everyone is having a great start to their new year!!

I just wanted to say how amazing this forum & thread are.  For most of the last 12 years, I've felt that maybe I'm the only one with this problem, or that if there were others, I would never know.  I was reaching the point where I felt there may be no hope.  I felt like people, without understanding at all, would dismiss this as some idiosyncratic psychosomatic problem -- although I always found it interesting how psychiatrists and psychologists were much less likely to call this a 'psychological' condition than regular physicians; they urged me to seek help from neurologists and endocrinologists.

This place has changed everything. We now have a huge support group.  There is obvious research interest.  And now it seems like the general public might finally become aware of what we have had to go through and deal with -- which could lead to help, and maybe treatment!

It seems like our productivity is increasing exponentially from year to year.  2010 was a productive year, and it seems that 2011 will be far more productive still.

Happy new year!

Counterpoints, you are amazing too! You have been of enormous help here, by upping the  professional level of posts with your solid understanding of the field of medicine, and especially with your POIS online survey, and your brilliant work on our wikipedia entry. Just yesterday, I posted about another chat thread where sufferers found relief by finding your wikipedia entry.

Happy New Year, Counterpoints!

okay peeps, i got some interesting info

so this girl im with, she has what sounds exactly like the mental symptoms of POIS when she does not take her orthocyclen or orthotryclen birth control pills. she was almost diagnosed with some mental disorders as she became a teenager. the mental symptoms went away once they put her on the birth control. literally the same day she takes teh pill the mental stuff melts away .

from wiki:
Norgestimate is a form of progesterone, which is a female hormone important for the regulation of ovulation and menstruation. Norgestimate is used with estradiol (a female sex hormone that is involved in the development and maintenance of the female reproductive system), to treat the symptoms of menopause.

the orthocyclen contains .25mg of norgestimate and .035mg ethinyl estradiol.

yeah so im sold. ive seen her when she's taking the "non active" pills. her brain reinterprets things and her logic becomes skewed, just in the exact same way my POIS messes my reasoning up.

progesterone eh?

ive got 3 of her pills, im gonna put the naltrexone on hold for a bit and see what these do. doctor visit to follow up if they have a positive affect.

My urologist doesn't think progesterone plays a role in POIS because it's female hormone. And males have a little of progesterone. But progesterone was mentioned in one of the POIS-papers. I think.
But I hope it works for you!

O'd 4 times today, yes. 4 times.  After holding it in for so long it just was impossible to resist it any more temptations, especially in the mornings.  Anyways, I took an Aleve today, it didn't help at all, but the only problem with aleve is that i'm taking it after the orgasms, not before.

Hello everyone. I have just joined this site after reading this topic, and thinking I may be suffering from this problem.
The last few days Ive been suffering extreme fatigue and brainfog, inability to concentrate very well, feel ill after eating food, etc.
I "O'd" on Monday, and it was the day after that I noticed the extreme fatigue set in. I had put it down to symptoms from my SSRI medication, but it seemed odd how it coincided with the day after "O-ing".
I wonder if SSRI meds can cause this, as I know that others taking them have had brainfog after "O" too.

What can help with this problem? I read a few pages back that sea-salt water and liquorice tea are helpful.
I find eating difficult at the moment, it makes me feel more tired. I drink tea to try give me a boost but it seems to do very little.

baboo, welcome to the POIS thread of The Naked Science Forum!

Here are some POIS resources which may be helpful to you:

Our POIS Information Website, built by "mat780", is here:
http://sites.google.com/site/POISwebsite/

Filling out the POIS survey created by "Counterpoints" can help you to share more POIS information and details with others here, as well as with future outside researchers.
http://pois.olympe-network.com/

Please see "B_Jim"'s POIS Summary of All Cases, here as well as others on the Web. This includes remedies that we have tested, and results.
http://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/index.php?topic=6576.msg149009#msg149009

"Girlwind" has created an excellent POIS Video:

There are a couple of ways to get any or all of the above 3 studies: (1) if you want a PDF copy, send me a Private Message (PM) with your regular email address (use "AT" instead of "@" ) and I'll send you back the PDF.

Or, if you prefer, (2) I can simply reply with a Private Message (no regular email needed) and provide you with a simple text version embedded in your PM.

To send a Private Message, click on "Messages" at the top of this page. At the Messages page, click on "New Message". From that point on, it works just like posting a message here, except that it only goes to the person(s) you designate.

Remember to put a quote around my name, i.e., "demografx".

In addition to serving our own informational interests, the resources listed above can be useful for you to show our credibility to the medical world - which often shows little understanding and is sometimes skeptical of our condition: POIS has scientific underpinnings and POIS is not "just another psychological problem" related to sex - to be treated by the psychiatric/psychotherapeutic community. All of this information can greatly help you to fight the immediate reaction of some doctors: so just tell them, "IT'S NOT 'ALL IN OUR HEADS'! "

Also, it can be helpful when dealing with medical professionals to point out the successful existence of our rapidly growing forum, which has already been referenced in respectable sources such as the British Medical Journal and wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postorgasmic_illness_syndrome

For over 3 years, our POIS forum has attracted over 200 POIS sufferers worldwide who have posted here, research on an additional 200 sufferers elsewhere on the internet, plus nearly 1,000,000 page visits. Not bad for a rare malady!
