Where can I download songs from?
« on: 12/06/2017 03:52:47 »
I'm looking for a website or software so I can download my favorite songs in MP3 format so I can listen to them when I'm walking etc. Anybody know of a good website for this or reliable software?

I've bought a fair bit of music from Amazon as DRM-free MP3s with a high bit-rate (which means gentle compression and very good sound quality) - that makes it easy to copy it onto lots of different devices without any complications and to keep lots of backups on different storage devices. I haven't bought any music for a while though, so I can't guarantee that they're still selling them in this form or that the system for downloading them is still as simple as it used to be, but I'd recommend going there and experimenting by buying a track or two.

I expect the files contain hidden serial numbers (unique to each buyer) so that anyone who tries to pirate them can be traced more easily, but they know that people often lose MP3 players, so they can't possibly prosecute the original buyer without extra evidence that they are selling copies on (which would be easy enough to prove if anyone is doing it in sufficient volumes to matter).

Dare I say it, iTunes? Or is that too DRM'd to be useful?

iTunes

iTunes is for organizing music you already have. I'm trying to find a program or website where I can download music for free. E.g. kazaa

download music for free
Music with DRM aims to return some credit to the original authors.
- Authors accept that this returns fewer cents/pennies/yen per sale than vinyl or polycarbonate recordings, but they get far more sales.
- And it's better for the environment
- Even the legendary Beatles (Apple Music) eventually got over their gripe and allowed their music to be sold on Apple iTunes, because they saw they were losing out

Downloading music without paying the authors is like writing a scientific paper, an essay or a patent without giving credit to the authors of the prior work.

If you like The Naked Scientists podcast (and there are several versions of this podcast, dealing with different aspects of science), why not try some others?
- Science Friday has a similar scope, but with more of a focus on the USA
- Nature, Scientific American and eLife have podcasts providing a quick overview of articles they have published

Many podcasts already have sponsors (or will occasionally ask you for donations - it's up to you whether you pay or not).

...and a podcast will keep your brain active while the exercise keeps your body & brain active (if that's what you want).

Well, if you have a cellphone, and plug earbuds into it, there is the standard FM radio that almost every cellphone ( aside from those in the USA, where for some reason the radio itself is not shown but is there in the firmware still) has built in, from the top of the range to the cheapest feature phone that can only do audio calls, do SMS and play the radio. Even most media players ( I have had a few, assorted name and non name brands as well) will have a radio in them, and if you download the non US firmware for them ( do a firmware update from the manufacturer website and choose the non US model) you find the radio there in a menu.

iTunes was mentioned above along with other pay sites. I'm only looking for free downloads. Sort of like listening to the radio and I don't pay for the radio. I don't have money to spare (disabled) and I want to get a lot of songs.

Hello, guys, first of all, you need to let us where your favorite songs from? Of course, no matter which website your music files from, you can use Spammy Audio Converter to convert DRM and DRM-free audio tracks to MP3 with a few clicks. Hope it's good for you.

How about ' Recording ' instead of ' Downloading ' .

Surely Android/iOS have free apps that support live audio recording from external player/radio n store them in mp3 format by default on a SD card.

Would be a very ' fishing in a pond ' like slow process of waiting for your favourite song to pop up on the radio n then having to use ' quick as a cat ' like reflexes to hit that red record button.

But once you ' nail the bullseye ' then you may ' hang your hat ' on the target whenever, wherever, forever as long as you like.
Surely it's a pretty enduringly tasked process requiring skills & effort, ' but hey ' nothing comes for " FREE ", Right!

P.S. - TNS forum, its affiliates & users/members in ' noo way ' shall be responsible if the above mentioned information is misused n found violating copyrights acts of talented & hard working musicians worldwide.
Piracy in any form, is a breach of values of humanity.

If you have iPhone, I think iTunes is the only option. Also for music / video downloads you can use VK (Vkontakte)

I'm used to download Spotify music and convert to MP3, AAC, etc format with Tuneskit Music Converter Spotify Windows. If you are Spotify free user, you may know there is no right for you to download Spotify or play Spotify offline with free account. If you want to download Spotify or play offline, you have to upgrade to premium account. Fortunately, now you can use this DRM removal tool to crack DRM protection. After conversion, it will be much convenient for you to listen Spotify on any devices without limitation.
