We have considered this question on the forum in the past in this thread about elephant long bones and bone marrow.

My post there talked about the different distribution of bone marrow in an elephant for reasons of bone integrity and strength.

The answer was also included in an episode of the Naked Scientists Podcast under the heading "Where is an elephant's bone marrow?"
