What are the challenges of RNA medicines?
« on: 13/11/2018 16:58:21 »
Hello!

Can we supply RNA to a patient? If not, what are the challenges?

Thanks

The answer is yes, we can supply RNA; but the usual way to do this is via a vector that carries into a population of cells the genetic instructions to do this, and the transduced cells then act as a source of interfering RNAs:

More recently, scientists have developed other cargo systems that can invest and protect the RNA molecules until they are taken up by target cells:

This recent article talks about how a father's environment could affect their children, by RNA in extracellular vesicles controlling DNA expression in the offspring.
