Apparently the proliferation of this plant leads to an significant reduction in atmospheric CO2.

In what way is it different from practically all the other plants?

I read an account that over a period of 3 million years this plant reduced the CO2 concentration from 6500P/m to 550 P/m leading to a substantial cooling of the Earth I guess we want something that works more quickly

The problem is that we are busy breeding ourselves out of existence and taking the natural world with us. The only long term solution to the present crisis is population control and sustainable human existence, rather than a mindset of perpetually pushing the envelope and then using science to solve each crisis* we create.
