Why do horse chestnut leaves brown and shrivel so early?

Why do horse chestnut leaves brown and shrivel so early?

Listener Sue sent us the following:

I notice year after year that horse chestnut tree leaves brown and shrivel much earlier than other deciduous trees. Why is that?

I am also informed that a moth is getting into deciduous tree leaves to shrivel them - and I also notice that sycamore leaves are blackening locally...


Any answers to her question?
