Yesterday I kept hearing things clicking tapping against my bedroom

window while doing some folding of Laundry so I climbed onto my bed

and looked out the window. At first I saw nothing, then my eyes

moved to the window to my left and I jumped out of my skin.. LOL

There were hundreds of bees hitting my window as if attacking it!

Because I was startled I fell back on my bed.. then realized, there

was a window between us.. My brain did not work as quickly as it

should have. I sat up and was shocked to see the biggest yellow

Jackets hive attached to my wall and eave outside my window. It was

awesome... I have not removed it yet but will tomorrow or so! I

would like to keep the nest without the bees. Is there a way for

one to do that without getting the holy crud stung out of you! I

have seen yellow jackets my whole life, but these were the most

aggressive ones I have ever seen!

Here are three pictures, I hope they are good ones as I had to run

away as they were finding me quickly! LOL

Smoke them. That puts the bees in a placid mood. Ask your local ATF officer to let you have some large Havana cigars from their latest bust. Bees like them.

Failing that, sing them a lullaby whilst accompanying yourself on a glockenspiel.

Whatever you do, don't let a gospel choir anywhere near them. The bees will unbutton their shirts & start waving their wings in the air.

 LOL LOL...HEE HEE HEE....I have actually heard about smoke and bees. don't keepers use smoke sometimes with honey bee's?

I really would like to preserve the hive to take over and show me kiddos at school! A nice excuse to see my babies...LOL

Yellow jackets are wasps that can be very dangerous and vicious. Sometimes destroying the nest is the only way to get rid of them.

Yellow jackets are a particularly vicious kind of wasps that closely resemble honey bees in appearance, but are entirely different in nature and habits. Yellow jackets and wasps have a very narrow waist which distinguishes them from bees. They eat other insects, but are also attracted to picnic sites, garbage cans or other "people food", especially sweets and meat. They are extremely territorial and often make their nests in unseen holes in the ground. If disturbed, they will attack the offending person or animal without mercy. When walking in wooded areas, take note if you see yellow jackets hovering, they will often be near the ground. Although they often nest in undeveloped wooded areas, it is not uncommon to find their nests in a yard, near houses and where children play.


Unlike honey bees, yellow jackets and other wasps are not killed when they sting and can and will sting over and over. When swatted or harmed, they give off a signal to other nearby hive-mates that will bring others to their defense. If a person is unfortunate enough to stumble onto a nest, he may be stung multiple times before being able to get away.

  Thanks Michael, My husband removed the one several years ago at night..put a bucket up underneath the hive and scrapped it off and then knocked it down into the bucket and slid a board over the top then had a huge fire going in the burning barrel and dropped it in there.. I was going to try it myself.. I am a bit of a chicken with bees my sister nearly died getting stung tons of times.. If I do it I will be careful, but I am looking first for someone who may know more about it then me! LOL I would prefer a nice volunteer Bee keeper! LOL I live out in the county not in the city so getting someone here is difficult! LOL  I would like to be able to keep the hives for the kids at the preschool If possible!

I was talking with and my brother in law, who then says, "oh hell I will just reach up there and take it down.. that's all I ever do! no biggie! LOL!! LOL What a knot head! I want the nest not the bees.. LOL preferably with out poisons in and about it so the children can enjoy it! I wonder can we leave it up all summer and will the winter clean the nest out by being so cold?

I was out data collecting last year in the Autumn when it was wet. I had on climbing boots, long sock, jeans and over-trousers and so was (I thought) completely sealed in. I felt a sharp pain in my thigh and I thought that I had trodden on a stick that had punctured my trousers, but then when I was looking, I felt another. I pulled of my trousers and found a wasp. I brushed it off, but then got another one on the inside of my thigh. When wasps sting, they let out a pheromone which attracts others. So now I had my trousers round my ankles and I was surrounded by wasps. I pulled up my trousers and ran like a mad thing through the forest until I was away from the wasps. I thought that I was in the clear, until I felt another movement, but this time it was IN MY PANTS! There was another wasp, right next to my, er, tackle. OUCH!!!!!

Please can I keep the swelling - just make the pain go away!

  LOL LOL.. Sorry I know it wasn't funny BUT YOU ARE!!! LOLOH MY.. That must have smarted... Yikes....I had one dive bomb my breast whilst I was lying in bed reading.. It hit hard and left a big spot and hurt like crazy! Was not good.. I still have a red spot from that spider bite, but it did not hurt like the yellow jacket sting! I had to run a bit today as I was only there around 20 seconds per shot, but they were having no problem finding me and they were not happy that i was by there nest!

My brother in law says he will come and remove my hive so I can preserve it! He said he will drop it into a large plastic black Garbage bag with a hose in it and seal it and turn on the ether. he said ether will kill them. When they are dead, we can dump the bee's from the hive and save the hive.. He said people use shellac to paint the hives as they can preserve them that way.

We will see..I am interested in knowing if anyone has other ideas for preservation of the hive?
