Oh yes, the real driver of global warming as well as pollution, topsoil disappearing, oceans acidity, you name it, lies not in the way we failed to notice it building, but in the way we think. This world used to be 'infinite' to us, and of 'unbound riches'. It's just recently we found out that it isn't. We could always move somewhere else before. Today that behavior will lead to a war.

I'm not saying it couldn't happen before too, we're very territorial creatures. But there were a lot of more room for us. Today all country's has set boundaries and as in Africa borders that doesn't even fit the populations caught inside them.

Another thing making it possible is our attention spans. They're pretty short, every new generation gains its own set of 'truths'. As in 'this is the way it always have been'. So being on a slope, accelerating toward extinctions, our inbreed knowledge of how it 'is' and 'always have been' blinds us. Just think of the changes that has happened in the last fifty years, how much of it do you really remember.

And what rides our backs are greed and profits.

GDP is a perfect example of that kind of thinking.
It has to grow, it's a 'law'.

For a person growing up inside this system, defined as being successful by the rest of us, it becomes only natural to look at f.ex New Zealand as a personal way out of global warming. Or, just betting on that with enough wealth at his back he and his descendants will be able to shelter themselves from the worst effects. After all, it has worked so far, right?

He's just following the rules of the game we play.

You could call it a variant of 'game theory'.
Either you play by the rules, or you don't.

so far the majority of us play by the rules.

I think it's time to break them.

The reason why is simple. There is nowhere to hide.

The rules you play under are the wrong rules. They don't fit this planet any more.

So it's you that need to break them. Because they are your rules too. It's not a political movement, and neither is global warming.

We need to grow up.

That, I would say is Greta's problem. She's looking for elders but only finding politicians and manipulators. All of them playing by the rules.

The kind of response she's hoping for won't happen. It will be a word game.

But she will shame them, and that is a first step.

But not really, if you change you will become what will change their views too. And furthermore I agree on a lot of stuff there, it's not going to be your bicycle or your vegan foods that change it. Both will help naturally but it's the whole system and the way we built it that needs to be changed. I'm very tired of people lying. I'm also very tired of people thinking of themselves as 'politically motivated'. You that do so are in my view out of touch with reality. Change and put pressure on those companies, those politicians. Demand real changes. The worst thing you can do is to polarize global warming into politics.

You could say that global warming puts the spotlight on everything that is wrong with us and our politicians. You see them struggle, lying, misdirecting, giving you promises that they then reinterpret. You see industries doing the exact same. And still you accept it. It's the way the game is played.

Change game please. Find a better one.

One should always remember that the best lies are those ones oneself believe.  That's one way to become a fanatic, or naive if looked at from another perspective. And core beliefs going wrong can't be true. Yeah, I know, that one covers my views too :)

You just have to choose

The difference between my core beliefs and what we have today being that the ones we have already been proven wrong, over and over again. It's time for something different.
