Myself I think that we should be able to use those positive spins, geoengineerings etc as a sort of barometer, of how bad it really is, up to a limit of course. Where that limit should become when all doors are wrecked down, where we find nowhere to hide from it any longer. No New Zealand to look forward to.

Quite simple. a presumption of a infinite world of infinite resources, where nothing we do need to change.

As f.ex industrial farming, urbanization and deforestation

Industrial farming kills topsoil, which leads to deforestation, and urbanization

Combine it with rains that no longer feeds the soil, instead taking it with it, into rivers and finally the ocean. To get that back you need to look at geological time scales, and this Earth system, we alone won't be able to. Combined with flash droughts and floods, and aquifers running dry

Then you have our water wars, and damming, lack of energy and our accelerating reliance on desalination plants

The time scale for this Earth system creating new topsoil differs, but it should at least be some average of centuries, or more. Which means that we won't get it back to 2100 or even 2200. some of it takes milleniums
