Oh well, just brought some Norethisterone Pills to try out.
It will be some weeks before they arrive, to report on their effectiveness.

I need to repeat my concerns, hope you don't mind!

Everyone, please be careful, read my post on the potentially harmful side effects.

Work under the supervision of a trusted physician!

It's always wise to have medicines only by prescription of a doctor.
But I read that dr. Dexter's patient was cured by  norethisterone. So it could work for Horizon or others too.

yep,
i hope they arrive in time so i can talk about them to my urologist,(showing the studies and male contraceptive info etc.)
im still waiting on a letter from my doctor to when im due too see a urologist.

I received some information from Life Extension on Fibromyalgia/CFS and an interesting theory is that the cause is there is an elevated level of peroxynitrate .  Research by Martin Pall in 2005 seems to indicate this is caused by abnormal levels of nitric oxide Synthase (INOS)in the central nervous system causing inappropriate stimulation of pain receptors and increase in oxidents such as peroxynitrite radical and other reactive oxygen species.
Nitric Oxide is produced to begin the process of increasing blood flow into the Penis for erection.  PDE5 is a substance which inhibits this process.  Sidinfil which is the active ingredient in Viagara etc.  inhibits PDE5.

Perhaps that is why some had temporary  relief from using these products is that less  Nitric Oxide was necessary and therefore less INOS
Nitric Oxide is also used to a lesser extent in the stimulation process for women during sex.
I tried a product recently which was supposed to increase oxygen at the cellular level.  The process using a form of L-arginine  to stimulate production of natural Nitric Oxide.  I stopped  because my muscles and spine became stiff and it was harder to move. Almost identical to what happens with POIS, particularly in that 1st 24 hour period.
The effects of this oxidative  damage include fatigue, lethargy, depression, siffness and pain. A lot of the damage occurs to the mitocondria which affects the ATP-ADP energy producing cycle
Unfortunately a diagnosis would probably require a spinal tap  during POIS.
Antioxidants could help some.  Things like blueberries are very high.  There is a product out of France which may help counteract this effect but has not proven in any tests.

Thanks, that article is on the front page of our information website (see below).

utur, welcome to the POIS thread of The Naked Science Forum!

Here are some POIS resources which may be helpful to you:

Our POIS Information Website, built by "mat780", is here:
http://sites.google.com/site/POISwebsite/

Please see "B_Jim"'s POIS Summary of All Cases, here as well as others on the Web. This includes remedies that we have tested, and results.
http://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/index.php?topic=6576.msg149009#msg149009

Filling out the POIS survey created by "Counterpoints" can help you to share more POIS information and details with others here, as well as with future outside researchers.

There are a couple of ways to get any or all of the above 3 studies: (1) if you want a PDF copy, send me a Private Message (PM) with your regular email address (use "AT" instead of "@" ) and I'll send you back the PDF.

Or, if you prefer, (2) I can simply reply with a Private Message (no regular email needed) and provide you with a simple text version embedded in your PM.

To send a Private Message, click on "Messages" at the top of this page. At the Messages page, click on "New Message". From that point on, it works just like posting a message here, except that it only goes to the person(s) you designate.

Remember to put a quote around my name, i.e., "demografx".

Sex and Depression: In the Brain, if Not the Mind

In addition to serving our own informational interests, the resources listed above can be useful for you to show our credibility to the medical world - which often shows little understanding and is sometimes skeptical of our condition: POIS has scientific underpinnings and POIS is not "just another psychological problem" related to sex - to be treated by the psychiatric/psychotherapeutic community. All of this information can greatly help you to fight the immediate reaction of some doctors: so just tell them, "IT'S NOT 'ALL IN OUR HEADS'! "

Also, it can be helpful when dealing with medical professionals to point out the successful existence of our rapidly growing forum, which has already been referenced in respectable sources such as the British Medical Journal and wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postorgasmic_illness_syndrome

For over 3 years, our POIS forum has attracted over 150 POIS sufferers worldwide who have posted here, plus over 700,000 page visits. Not bad for a rare malady!

utur, this post will help you find information about POIS that we have already discussed, by tailoring a Google search to this forum:

SEARCH THE FORUM WITH GOOGLE

We have an overwhelming amount of data: 3 years' worth of posts (nearly 9,000 posts!) from 150+ Forum members, and an additional 150 POIS sufferers found elsewhere on the Internet by Member B_Jim.

In the Google search box, type
whatever-it-is-you're-interested-in-finding-out[space]POIS[space]site:http://thenakedscientists.com/

for example, I tried
demografx POIS site:http://thenakedscientists.com/

and 1,000+ results came up for "demografx" within the Forum.

be careful with spaces (you can use them before the word "site") and no-spaces (everything after the word "site")

Google even provides you results with the Message# for each result. But Message #'s do change, so be patient and look for the approximate Message#.

I also thought that my symptoms were caused by Hypothyroidism. Especially because my TS4 was a little bit low. I tried Thyrax for two weeks, but it didn't help. Maybe I quit Thyrax too fast. About a few months I will let my TS4 checked again.

I mean what those of us with POIS have. Systemic yeast overgrowth/infection, especially in the prostate. Yeast loooves sugar and simple carbs.

It's associated with chronic fatigue, brain fog (I've heard of cases where the clearing of a yeast infection was accompanied by a lifting of a mental veil.) irritability, joint pain (which I have especially), IBS... there's more. Research systemic yeast infections.

My theory is that the yeast infects the prostate (and possibly testicles) and interferes with its function, making recovery time from ejaculation Especially long and arduous. And as a side-theory, the releasing of fluid from the prostate is also the release of yeast into the system, irritating the body and over-triggering immune system.

Letter to Dr. Selwyn Dexter, author of the progesterone/norethisterone treatment study in
British Medical Journal

From:      demografx
To:        Dr Selwyn Dexter
Sent:      8/3/2010 6:46:22 P.M. Pacific Daylight Time
Subj:      Postorgasmic Illness Syndrome

Dear Dr Dexter,

I want to thank you for your great work in publishing the study, "Benign coital headache relieved by partner’s pregnancies with implications for future treatment."

After 30+ years suffering, I have personally been helped greatly with testosterone replacement therapy. Some members at the forum are considering - under physician supervision - combination treatments of progesterone and testosterone.

Let me know if there is anything we can assist you with.

Best regards,

Interestingly, I just noticed that Dr Dexter's patient progesterone concentrations were measured at St Mary's Hospital in London.

That same hospital is also where Jane Ashby, the co-author of the 2010 POIS study, is affiliated.

I think someone else here brought up the possible connection between the 2 studies, which also were published at roughly the same time, Jan-Feb 2010.

Got the paper (the Ashby one!), thanks - look forward to reading that.

I'm sorry to read that POIS occurs in other galaxies, I wouldn't wish it on alien life-forms. At least we'll have something in common to talk about when they arrive on Earth though. Who'd have thought that such an awkward to approach subject would be the first thing you'd share with an alien?

That's why Roswell is still a hush hush cover-up. "They" don't want the public at large to know that we got POIS from them!

Today I had a cystoscopy. And an ultrasound of the prostate. In the bladder, the prostate and the urethra there was nothing wrong. My urologist said that I have to do noting in three months. Maybe the time will heal my many UTI's (3 in one year).

Today or tommorow I will have a blood test for: Progesteron, Testosteron total and Prolactin. This is on my request. The urologist said that he doesn't exept that there is something too see.

Today I will ask my familydoctor for a blood test for things like vitamin D, iron, anemia, diabetes, etc.

P.S. Does anyone has a 'stabbing' feeling in the penis?
