Well, I do like this one.  The Tea Master and the Detective by Aliette de Bodard
She has a way of making me wonder.

Actually it's slightly too short, for my taste :) But then again, it's perfectly enough in itself. Reading it reminded me of another small gem. The Ring of Allaire by Susan Dexter. Sometimes it's just in the words, weaving a certain kind of magic. But then there are some books that gives you something more than words. I think both of those have it in them.

Why do I think Earth might be resilient? Well, it's about tippings and of how close we might be to a major one. It's also about hope for a future, and the way we will act. If we go out from a major tipping already being here, making it more or less impossible to change the current situation, no matter what we do. Then we already have given up, haven't we?

whatever form a major tipping will take it won't be seen as it starts. My own opinion is that we will learn about it as it evolves. So far I don't know of anything pointing irrecoverably to that. You might call it a case of the glass being half full or half empty, in this case I prefer it being half full.

I don't expect that behavior to fit inside diversity and sustainability, especially if you think of the way seedless seeds are pushed upon the small farmers there.

There is a really big divide between poor country's and rich. And when rich countries try to lessen their impact on our world the 'market' moves to county's with less regulations and a greater need for cheap solutions. As always 'the market knows best' right? And as always the 'market' is populated by the same rich countries that condemns those practices at home.

Turkey and Russia, both thinking that a solution to cheap power are those ships moored where needed. The difference being how the power is generated. Oil for Turkey, nuclear for Russia.

with some of those developing countries going the same way as China. Wanting to become geopolitical heavyweights. One shortcut to it being the one taken by Israel, UK, France, China, India and Pakistan, Russia and USA and of course North Korea. Herd animals with a killer instinct.

And the way the manufacturing always looks for the cheapest solutions and working-forces our industries keeps spreading out, into countries that by themselves would have needed decades to create those industries by themselves. And as usual it's not adapted to those countries, it's adapted to where the market for those products exist. But when we stop buying them those countries still will. Because theirs a 'learning curve' and a induced way of becoming 'modern'.

You can look at those comments as me trying to be 'politically correct' Syhprum. I don't want to scare people away as it then leaps the risk of being called 'doomsday scenarios' :) And then nobody will read except those wanting to get their own ideas confirmed. And I'm afraid they won't be satisfied either :)
