What it will mean is a new blame game getting created. Not that it will cost the individuals signing this 'pledge' anything. Your hierarchies are protected, but you will get something to discuss and write about. And blaming them you become blameless.

You should really avoid questioning it. It won't do you any good, it may even make you use your mind.

Show me one 'pledge' on global warming or any of our current disasters that has worked so far.

there's multi billion and trillion industries based on the wrong practices today.  The wrong beliefs and the wrong ideals, populated by 'peers', all with a lot to lose by a change. They have a direct line to your politicians, and to your jobs, your wallet.

don't rock the boat.

It's not only fossil industries, the Haber Bosch process is another, pesticides, your ideas about what infra structures means in form of f.ex housing and transportation, mono plantations, forest industries, the conveyor belt principle, 'industrial' over fishing, deforestation. and the list can be made longer.

They go hand in hand with the overpopulation you face, starvation and migrations, and the wars.

It's what I call a 'system fault'. A game that has gone overboard.

The worst thing about it?

you only have a few decades to change it.

You don't have to take what come as the ultimate truth, it's a estimate, a educated guess. In 2012  professor John Crawford, estimated that 40% of arable soil is degraded and that we only have about 60 years of pristine, arable soil left. And that this will drop food production about thirty percent. And it drives deforestation as the search for new arable land continues. It also drives seed variation to disappear as there only is a limited amount of seeds 'adapted' to the pesticides used. It also drives pollution of your waterways, fish stocks, marine life, and the degradation of topsoil.

Then you have acidity, and how it deteriorates marine shells, f.ex phytoplankton producing oxygen, being at the bottom of the food chain, ending with you and your dinner.

Then you have your drinking water, and the ground water used for irrigation. Both declining.

On top of that you have the other effects, as global warming, species extinctions, etc.

and your game that don't want to change.

It's a combination of effects, a deadly mixture that will lead to migrations and climate wars. That will lead to us in the western industrialized world behaving much the same as the Nazis did. At the same time as we pump in weapons for them to fight with.
