A cardiac explant from a man who had been severely incapacitated by chronic cardiac failure and coronary artery disease for seven years entailing fourteen admissions to hospital. On 16 May 1969 cardiac transplantation was performed. Immunosuppression was by Azathioprine, prednisolone and antilymphocyte serum. His initial progress was excellent but three months after his operation he developed an overwhelming lung infection with Aspergillus fumigatus and died.
