Hepatocellular carcinoma in a cirrhotic liver

An autopsy specimen from a 52 year old former intravenous drug user who was admitted with jaundice. Investigations showed a space occupying lesion in a cirrhotic liver with multiple metastases in the lungs and brain. Serology confirmed chronic active hepatitis due to hepatitis C. He died in liver failure before further investigation could be performed.
