Tuberculosis with fatal haemorrhage


A 1958 autopsy specimen from a patient who died of a'byronesque' massive pulmonary haemorrhage due to advanced pulmonary tuberculosis. The specimen consists of one half of a lung, showing a massive tuberculous cavity involving almost the entire lobe containing a massive recent blood clot. Foci of tuberculouscaseation and fibrosis are present inthe residual lung tissue in the lower part of the lobe.
