A 1958 autopsy specimen from a 54 year old man admitted with a history of attacks of colicky abdominal pain. On examination a lump was felt in the right iliac fossa. The barium x-ray was normal and no occult blood was present in the stool, but a recurrence of pain occurred and laparotomy was decided upon. At operation the terminal ileum was found to be the site of an intussusception. After reduction, a tumour was felt in the bowel, this was resected. Recovery was rapid and without significant event.
