Cardiac Pathology: Inflammatory: Granulomatous: Sarcoidosis
01 June 2011
A 1964 autopsy specimen from a woman of 52 who died in hospital (Whipps Cross) shortly after collapsing unexpectedly at home, after a lunch she had prepared. There was a previous history of hysterectomy, probably for fibroids, and of removal of "a benign tumour" of the right breast, but no indication of heart disease. Microscopy showed extensive involvement of the myocardium by non-caseating granulomata.
