A 1947 autopsy specimen from a 34 year old mans contracted dysentery in Burma and was invalided out of the army in 1945. He remained unwell with bouts of diarrhoea and passing of blood and mucus, being anaemic and losing weight steadily. Amoebae were isolated in the original infection and again on admission in January 1947. He developed peritonitis due to large bowel perforation. An emergency repair was effected, but death ensued four hours later.
