A 1947 autopsy specimen from a 19 year old man who had attended a special school since the age of ten years owing to a congenital defect of his heart. He was dyspnoeic after slight exertion and severely cyanosed. A diagnosis of Fallot's tetralogy was made and Blalock's operation was performed by Mr. R.C. Brock on 15th May 1947, the first to be performed in this country. Death took place from massive pulmonary collapse nine hours later.
