01 September 2011
A 1953 autopsy specimen from a 65 year old woman who complained of a small swelling in the abdominal wall following a short history of dyspepsia. Biopsy of the swelling revealed a neurofibroma. The patient progressively became worse and died. At autopsy numerous swellings were present in the neck, abdominal wall, lungs and other viscera. The entire gut from cardiac orifice to anus was studded with innumerable pedunculated sub-mucosal neurofibromas.
