A 1958 operative resection specimen from a 50 year old man who had suffered from pain in the left iliac fossafor many years. In September 1954 he was admitted with an acute abdomen. At laparotomy, acute colitis of the descending colon was found, the abdomen was closed and medical treatment commenced. In November 1958 he was re-admitted. Investigation showed that the descending colon was stenosed. Laparotomy revealed stricture of the descending colon. Partial colectomy was performed. Convalescence was uneventful.
