Leigh Milner has the gaming news for July 2020

Gaming News: July 2020
Leigh Milner, Naked Gaming Podcast

Leigh Milner - We’ll start with some announcements… Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is coming to consoles on October 2nd this year! Crash and Coco have to work with four Quantum Masks to restore order to the multiverse. Sounds like a quiet Friday...

TRAILER

Animal Crossing has been updated so now you can swim, you can even dive in a wetsuit… It’s been described as the first “wave” of their summer updates. Wave. Unbelievable

According to a new survey, the UK’s most popular game during coronavirus is Roblox! It’s technically an online gaming platform where you can play games designed by other users... and create and share your own games.

The research was done by Compare the Market, and shows that some people really do have too much free time.

And finally, Kamala Khan is coming to the Avenger’s game... which is out later this year.

The Muslim-American teenager of Pakistani heritage has shape-shifting abilities, and is the latest character to take on the title of Ms Marvel. While the game has been criticised because many of the game’s characters don’t resemble their film-counterparts (I’m looking at you Captain America), Kamala Khan hasn’t featured in a Live-Action film yet, so that’s fine. The good news for fans is that a Ms Marvel TV series is in the works... coming to Disney+ possibly late next year.

Chris Berrow looks through the big game announcements for the Xbox Series X

Xbox Series X Reveal
Chris Berrow, Naked Gaming Podcast

Chris Berrow - Now let’s go through the big Xbox Series X announcements which took place on July 23rd, thus delaying the release of this episode of the Naked Gaming Podcast… thanks a lot...

We covered the PS5 last month so it’s only fair…

We start with the most important thing - the games!

There was a lot of excitement, with big releases like Fable 4…

TRAILER

A slightly more divisive trailer for Halo Infinite, because the graphics looked a bit disappointing…

TRAILER

State of Decay 3, which I’m excited for because I love zombies…

TRAILER

And… er Stalker 2 I suppose…

Not that many other games that got me excited.

How much is it going to cost? We don’t know, but it’s likely to be around £450-£500

It’s not the best looking console, I reckon it looks like a fan?

It’s going to have backwards compatibility, and it should be out by Winter 2020.

Can Chris in the Silverstone Grand Prix in F12020?

Review: F12020
Chris Berrow, Naked Gaming Podcast

Chris Berrow tries to win the Great British Grand Prix...

Chris - Formula One has finally returned, and they just released F12020 on consoles and PC.

Leigh Milner - Now I decided to challenge Chris because, well, he watches so much FormulaOone. He should know what he's doing. So can he win the Grand Prix?

Chris - Right? Let's race. Go, go, go, go. Right. Can't believe it right up on the inside of the no brake too hard there. That's the first time we played this game... fast. T'm going to get you brake, brake, battle. If you're missing anything to go by, you've got no chance. Just cut the corner. No worries. I can do this. Oh, I lost my front wing. Something got taken out. It's done. Anyway. Strong start strong start. Right? Absolutely drove it to the back of Vettle. The pace, the power, absolutely dominating the Great British Grand Prix.

Review: Ghost of Tsushima
Chris Berrow & Leigh Milner, Naked Gaming Podcast

What is the latest samurai game like? Chris Berrow and Leigh Milner take a look...

Chris - You have lots of different stances. So you can stand there and you can sort of adjust your posture. So you can stand with your sword above your head. And then that will counter a certain bad guy. And then you stand with your sword to the side, and then you counter the other one. So it's quite innovative in its combat. It's a bit like the Batman game that a lot of people would have played. Arkham city, Arkham asylum, all that kind of thing. In terms of the combat. When I first saw this though, I really wasn't bothered. I just didn't like the look of it at all, but it plays super smooth. And everyone's going crazy about the graphics.

Leigh - Well, I was just about to say it. The graphics look amazing.

Chris - The camera mode, especially it's like people are taking awesome photos, but they're just from the end game engine. If you want to spend your money on a big game, it's worth going for,

Ghosts of Tsushima is a seven to an eight out of 10, depending on if you'd like the whole vibe of it. It's 50 quid. I would say get it.

Super Mario in silhouette

13:09 - Review: Paper Mario: The Origami King

Is foldable Mario worth spending your foldable money on?

Review: Paper Mario: The Origami King
Chris Berrow & Leigh Milner, Naked Gaming Podcast

Leigh Milner plays Paper Mario for the first time during this review. And there's Chris Berrow of course...

Chris - The way the story works is Paper Mario is the two dimensional paper version of Mario that you've come to know and love. Now the Origami King has come along and wants to fold everybody up into origami and it makes them go a bit weird and strange... right now, press the right trigger on this game.

Leigh - What just happened.

Chris - So if you press the right trigger, Mario throws up confetti into the air. And what that does is it kind of fills in the gaps in the world. And it's such that the graphics are so good for a Mario game. I absolutely loved it. I played the first half an hour and it's really brilliant. However, there's one drawback, you know, like in Mario, when you can jump on the heads of the Goobas they're called... and the turtles and stuff you do, don't you, but in this, the combat is a weird circular, spinning the bad guys, round kind of vibe. And it's all the combat is awful. It's the only bit that lets down the game.

Otherwise I was going straight in with a 10 out of 10 here. The graphics, the story is really funny... right at the beginning there's Mario and Luigi or in a go-kart. Yeah. And they're on the way to Peach's castle and they go, Oh, it's so great to be on the road, bro. Going to a festival... how insensitive given the current climate.

So Paper Mario: The Origami King is out now... it's Nintendo Switch game and it's £50.

SpongeBob SquarePants

15:60 - Retro Revival: SpongeBob SquarePants Battle For Bikini Bottom: Rehydrated

Is the latest remastering of SpongeBob SquarePants Battle For Bikini Bottom worth playing?

Retro Revival: SpongeBob SquarePants Battle For Bikini Bottom: Rehydrated
Rhiannon Bevan, gameluster.com

Rhiannon Bevan from gameluster.com reviews the latest SpongeBob remaster...

When you do a remake, there's many ways you can take it. You can use the original as a template to tell a bigger and better story than ever before. We've completely different gameplay or you can stick to the original like scripture and simply up the graphics and modernize it for a new generation, While not alienating their originals fans. SpongeBob is very much the latter. This remake of a PS2 era classic is absolutely faithful to its roots, meaning it takes all of the good and all of the bad, but first we need to go through some background on the game about for Bikini Bottom which was released back in 2003. The reason that this unassuming platformer even had demand for a remake was likely because this sort of game is very rare, a licensed game that was actually good... and not to mention, retains the same humor and charm of the show.

Each character has their own advantages such as Sandy being able to make bigger jumps and Patrick being able to throw items and enemies. These skills are used to access different parts of the world. And the game is at its best when you're left to figure out how to use the characters abilities, to explore all corners of the map, the gameplay is incredibly well done. And for all characters, you always feel like you're in complete control. There's enough difference in how they will fight to keep combat interesting.

Despite the repetitive enemies, boss battles are surprisingly solid too. Every boss makes creative use of the character's abilities and even have phases in battle. Considering this is an area where most platforms fail and just make their boss battles pretty boring. This is impressive. One of the few changes to the game is the inclusion of a new boss, Robo Squidward, which is a very welcome addition, when the bosses were already a highlight. Another change is the art style, which is much brighter to match the cartoon.

Simulator of the Month: Barber Shop Haircut Games 3D
Alex Rhodes, Naked Gaming Podcast

Alex Rhodes attempts to learn how to cut hair in Barber Shop Haircut Games 3D...

Alex - Already the graphics are rough. I can see myself in the reflection. The guy, my victim has already sat down with completely white eyes. It looks like his eyes are rolled back into the head. My character is he's got like the eyes of a devil. His feet don't move it just kind of drifts around like a vampire. How do I cut his hair? Okay. Okay. I'm doing it. I'm doing that. Cut. Cut. I've tried not to stab him in the eyes. Okay. Let's get that fringe off there, sir. Did you have two ears when you came in? All right, sorry about that. This is not going very well at all. His hair is like incredibly patchy and uh, gross. It looks like the sink after you've shaved done. Oh, I did a good job. I absolutely butchered his look, but I did a good job.
